Truck 2027
JR Elrod
Co-owner & President · Driver · 30 years · U.S. Army veteran
The man who books the load is often the one who straps it down. JR co-founded BAR Transportation with his wife Rebecca and runs the company as President. He also still drives. Thirty years in heavy haul and oversize, and he has never gotten far enough from the seat to forget what the job actually asks of a person.
When JR quotes a load, he is quoting something he has hauled. When he tells a customer what a route will take, he has run routes like it. And when he asks a driver to do something hard, he is not asking for anything he will not do himself the following week.
Before trucking he served in the U.S. Army. The habits stuck: show up early, check the equipment, say what you are going to do and then do it. Customers get his cell number, not a queue. 785-313-2287.
Office
Rebecca Jo Elrod
CEO · Co-owner
Rebecca holds the certifications, contracts, and the word the drivers keep. HUBZone, WOSB, and WBENC sit on BAR because of her ownership. She met JR in 1992, earned her CDL, and ran team with him before the company had a name. The office promise is hers: integrity is not a slogan.
Customers who need paper — insurance certificates, capability statements, set-aside IDs — go through Rebecca. The trucks go through JR.
Truck 2026 · Lead driver
Chad Davis
30+ years driving · 6 years with BAR
If you have seen a spotless blue Kenworth T680 on the highway, there is a good chance it was Chad. He hauls oversize cooling towers, machinery, and military freight. He asks the right questions, coordinates with customers and fellow drivers, and builds securements that protect the freight and the public.
Chad treats the truck like a rolling business card. Inside and out it is immaculate. Off the clock he runs a small side business buying, repairing, and reselling vehicles, stays close to family, and leads a phone Bible study most mornings. He is BAR’s steady hand.
Truck 2029
Charles “Ducky” Thomason
20+ years driving · 5 years with BAR
If you have seen a Kenworth and a driver in a Hawaiian shirt, it was probably Ducky. Five years in, he still carries himself like he has something to prove — in the best way. He never assumes anything about a load. If something does not look right, he speaks up, fixes it, and makes sure the freight is safe for the customer and everyone else on the road.
Customers notice the walk-around. Straightforward move or a tricky specialized haul, he checks securement and confirms details before he rolls. Off the road he is a husband and a proud father. No shortcuts. No excuses.
Truck 2023
Wardell Ward
Joined BAR Transportation September 2026
The newest name on the door, already running oversize the way the rest of the fleet runs it. TWIC credentialed, passport in hand, cleared for base access. If freight ends up on Truck 2023, it is in good hands. His longer story will grow with the miles.
Alumni · Retired August 2026
Ron Miller
Lead driver 2010–2026 · 30+ years driving · 16 years with BAR
If you saw a sharp 2002 Kenworth W900L, it was often Ron. He joined without a ton of oversize experience and became lead driver and one of the best in the shop. He ran the SPX Cooling Technologies Marley Road Show across 36 states and more than 29,000 miles. He delivered military loads, tackled hard OS/OW freight, and had that W900L featured in Apex Capital’s yearly calendar.
Ron’s pride is his family — wife, two daughters, a son, and grandchildren. He kept the crew sharp, kept the schedule, and kept JR honest. On complex multi-truck projects, Ron ran point. We keep his spot on this page because he set the standard we still hire against.
